Seoripul Youth Art Gallery Exhibition: Fictionally Alibi
In a dark room, an investigator treats a single grainy image from an old CCTV camera as evidence of the truth. The act of endlessly rearranging incomplete evidence shows how records have shifted from proof of fact to “proof of belief.” Belief, in turn, becomes the trigger that makes us imagine and fill in the blanks between events. Georges Perec, who closely observed the foundations of everyday life, practiced a private sociology to resist the erasure of individual lives by grand history and headlines. Drawing on Perec’s practical approach, the exhibition *Fictionally-Alibi* explores “fictional alibis” built by translating into personal language the noise found in the gaps of systems.
In the exhibition, an alibi is not evidence of absence meant to prove that someone was uninvolved in an incident. It is a gap set up by the artists themselves—a stage for filling in signs of life that were sensed but never entered as clear data. In an age when refined data and high-resolution fiction are intertwined, the exhibition invites visitors into a space where artists engage with systemic errors and noise to build their own internal logic. It offers gaps in which each person can construct their own beliefs between truth and fiction.
